Quick update

Keep a close eye out tonight for some very important updates to the forecast.   Some major changes are in the works including a few different chances for snow in the valley!!

What you should know right now is that snow looks very likely all across the area during the day Tuesday and Tuesday night.  More details later tonight after I’m done with school, but for now I’m thinking maybe as early as lunchtime we could start seeing snow flying through the air.  This will have much more of an impact on daily life and travel than Sunday’s little event.

Besides some important updates to the forecast, I’ll also recap our little weekend “snow event.” Class break is almost over, so I got to go.  Have a safe and fun evening!!!

Sunday morning snow!!

Highlights @8:30A.M.

Everyone is getting at least some snow today or tonight!!!

More snow the higher up you go in elevation.

Roads in the city should stay either slushy or just wet during the day.

After sunset we turn colder with snow showers continuing which means roads will be slick.

MONDAY

Icy and snowy roads in the morning.  Roads clearing up by noon.  Sunny and cold!!!!

Rest of the week

Very cold Tuesday.

More chances for snow this Wednesday, Thursday, and possibly next weekend, so stay tuned for that!!!!!!!

Saturday morning update

  1. Rainy and windy much of the day.
  2. Snow levels plummet later on tonight.
  3. Rain/snow mix on and off all day Sunday.  Roads below 500′ should stay just wet and fine to travel on through the course of the day.
  4. Sunday night: snow showers will stick at all elevations as we turn colder, and any moisture left on the roadways will quickly freeze up.
  5. Icy or snowy roads Monday morning.
  6. Sunny weather and temps rising above freezing should melt all ice and snow by late morning.
  7. Higher hills around the valley will be much slower to “thaw out.”

Very Snowy Mountains!!!!

Passes are currently snowy and will stay snowy through Monday afternoon.

Current conditions

GovernmentCamp 2.16.18                   Santiam Pass_2.16.18

Now through Monday:

20 to 26 inches of snow for the northern OR Cascades.

16 to 22 inches for the Southern OR Cascades.

3 to 8 inches of snow in the Coast Range Sunday.

Better travel weather Tuesday.

Excellent skiing conditions Monday through Wednesday!!

Elsewhere in the Beautiful Pacific Northwest:

Eugene, OR:  Decent chance for an inch or so of snow late Sunday evening through mid morning on Monday.

The Siskiyous:  Snowy Sunday and Monday.

Puget Sound:  Wet snow Sunday, drying out late that evening.

Some weekend snow???

Snowier forecast 2.16.18

Highlights

SUNDAY:   Much of the day will consist of rain and snow showers mixed together.  At some point during the evening all of us will switch over to snow showers.  Moisture will be starting to run out by then, so I don’t expect any of us to get more than an inch or 2 of snow at the very most.

Exceptions:  If you live roughly 500 to 1000 feet in elevation then you can expect 2 to 4 inches of snow.

Some fine print 😉  This is going to be a very showery pattern, so you can be sad, but don’t be too sad if you end up with less snow than your friends, relatives, or co workers who live in other parts of the valley.  Some of us are going to “score” more snow than others and that’s just how it goes this go around.

Monday:  Early morning could be a bit icy/snowy on the roads, especially higher up.  By mid-late morning roads should be clear and your super fun Presidents’ Day plans can carry on with minimal issues.  Just make sure to bundle up.  It’s going to be cold!!!!

Tuesday &Wednesday:  Look sunny, very cold, and dry for now…  Morning temps will be in the upper teens to low 20s depending on your location and highs will just peak over 40 degrees.

Summary

  • Worst travel impacts will be Sunday evening through Monday morning.

  • Not a huge snowstorm, but all of us should see at least a dusting of snow.

  • Dries out and turns sunny quick by Monday morning.

  • Still subject to change unfortunately, and that’s just how snow forecasts go for the Willamette Valley :/  But since I’m a world-class forecaster 😉 I’ve given you my very best guess at this point in time, and that’s all I can do…

  • Enjoy your weekend and check back for updates!!!  I’ll be watching things very closely!!!!
