More dry weather

Highlights

Friday will be the coolest day since last Saturday with morning clouds and highs only around 79.

For the most part the smoke will be cleared out of here for the weekend, but the break from it will be short-lived. By Sunday evening the smoke returns and will keep our highs from going much above 90 next week.

The other little challenge to the forecast is the possibility for thunderstorms Monday. Thunderstorms are so tough to forecast here. The chance is small like usual, but if I don’t mention it at all and then it pours “unexpectedly” I feel like I’ve dropped the ball. On the other hand when I put storms in the forecast like this it makes the day look rainier than it will likely be.

Bottom line: The vast majority of Monday will be dry even if we do see a storm roll through. Rest assured that yours truly will keep a close eye on it.

All the other days look warm & dry for the foreseeable future.

Smoke, clouds and showers

Some isolated showers are popping up over the Coast and Coast Range this afternoon.

There’s a chance they could move over the valley. So at any point later today it’s possible, but not likely that you see a rain shower or maybe even hear a rumble of thunder.

Also worth mentioning is the lack of heat outside. It feels a whole lot better than those 90s we were having. The smoke and clouds have really kept temps down a bit. At 2pm nobody in the Willamette Valley was above 80 degrees. Not too bad at all if you ask me…

Thunderstorm update

The Cascades and Central Oregon will get into the thunderstorm action later this afternoon. This is a little bit sooner than I initially expected, so keep a close eye to the sky if you are heading up that way.

Thunderstorms will remain possible Thursday & Friday morning as well.

Thunderstorm threat

The Cascades have an increased chance for thunderstorms Wednesday night through Friday.

The threat for thunderstorms expands Thursday night to include much of central & eastern Oregon and will continue through the day on Friday.

Plan accordingly if your travels take you into these areas.

Hot, hazy, & humid

No relief from the heat in sight.

Friday will be more comfortable with highs only in the mid 80s.

Next week is looking very hot with increased humidity.

Smoky skies won’t be leaving us anytime soon.

Saturday’s “showers”

Don’t cancel your outdoor plans over these. It’s just going to be a light shower or a few sprinkles. By Saturday evening it will be nice & dry again.

Here in the Salem area I’m only expecting a couple of brief showers which means some of you could stay dry the whole day. Keep in mind though dry or not, it will be a very cool & cloudy day for sure.

If you are seeking rain then head to Portland or places north of there. Rain showers will be more numerous the further north you go.

If you are going to be in Corvallis/Albany or places south then you will stay dry.

If you are going east of the Cascades you will stay dry.

Sunday and beyond

Sunday we warm right back up and by Monday we are back in the 90s for at least through Wednesday if not longer…

Smoky heat

Thick smoke is keeping temperatures down just a few degrees, but it’s still plenty hot out there.

A few LIGHT showers is looking more and more likely Saturday.

Sunday will kick off another very warm/hot string of days going into next week.
